Quality and ethical standards

I work by the highest ethical standards and the most recent data protection legislation.

I follow principles set out by the Social Research Association (SRA) ESRC, the British Sociological Associationthe Academy of Social Sciences and the Government Social Research unit (GSR).

I teach on how to apply ethical principles when conducting research or evaluations. I contributed to the revised SRA’s Ethics Guide (2021), sit on the SRA’s Ethics Forum; and wrote the ethics and methods chapters in the Guide to Research with Children and Young People (Brady and Graham, 2018).

As well as being reflective, I am collaborative in my approach, discuss emerging issues with commissioners and colleagues and keep myself up to date. My training and direct work often highlight contexts and challenges in real world situations.

I include a detailed ethical plan in R&E proposals. This balances principles with the context and practical circumstances of each project, to protect stakeholders while being proportionate.

My work is covered by professional indemnity and public and product liability insurance.
