I work by high ethical standards and follow principles set out by the Social Research Association (SRA), the British Sociological Association, the Academy of Social Sciences and the Government Social Research unit (GSR).
I teach the practical application of ethical principles on all my courses, contributed to the SRA’s Ethics Guide (2021), and sit on the SRA Ethics Appraisal service and the SRA’s Ethics Forum.
All my R&E proposals include an ethical plan to protect participants, other stakeholders and their data.
As well as being reflective and keeping myself up to date, I am collaborative in my approach, and discuss emerging issues with commissioners in order to find workable and proportionate ethical solutions, balancing principles with real world contexts.
Training course participants commonly seek advice on particular ethical dilemmas and challenges they face in their diverse projects.
My work is covered by professional indemnity and public and product liability insurance.
